In 1948? Scottish Junior Club Renfrew went on a South American tour. Apparantly 3 players were signed by Newell's Old Boys:
Stewart McCallum, William Kilpatrick (ex Dunfermline, Morton, Stenhousemuir) and Donald McDonald (ex Kilmarnock)

Did they really play competitive matches in their first team?
Stewart McCallum

According to this: "http://www.canaltrans.com/deportes/futbol1/historias/042.html"
McDonald and Kilpatrick played a lone official match (Newell's - Gimnasia LP 1-2, 27/06/1948), while McCallum played three games in total.

I have the teams McDonald played for, but no stats yet. If you're interested i can list
the teams he played for and in what seasons that was.
He played no League games for Kilmarnock, but made five appearances + one goal
in the Southern League Cup during the 1945-46 season (from February 1946 onwards).

Donald McDonald ;
Renfrew
FEB. 1946 Kilmarnock 0 league games (the 46-47 Kilmarnock McDonald should be Malcolm)
Back to Renfrew
August 46-October 1950 Rangers 0 League games
in 47-48 Stirling Albion (loan) 16-1
OCT. 50-51 Dumbarton 22-0
51-52 Stirling Albion 1-0
52-53 Dumbarton 18-0
53-54 Dumbarton 2-0
(I guess the Kilmarnock McDonald and Rangers McDonald are the same)
William Kilpatrick
1946-47 Dunfermline 11-0
1946-47 Stenhousemuir 1-0
1946-47 Morton 1-0 (2-1 in scottish league player's records)
This is what it could be but I'm not completely convinced it's correct
I'm not gonna add it in the database, more research is needed on the lower division player's in Scotland

Correct. Donald was a centre-forward and Malcolm a defender

Good luck with that. It's not at all easy (and that's the fun part of it
