Following Scottish League Players' Records Divison One 1946/47 to 1974/75:
William J. Simpson was born in Belfast (No Date of Birth), played for Linfield, Glasgow Rangers (1950-1958) 172/113, Stirling Albion (1958-1960) 8/1 and Partick Thistle (1959-60) 6/0, 12 NI Caps
Following The PFA Premier & Football League Players' Records 1946-1998:
William George Simpson was born in Glasgow (22 May 1928), played for Aston Villa and Crystal Palace (1952-1954) 38/13
So I think the one who played for Crystal Palace is not the same player as the one who played for the Rangers.

His Partick stats: 6-2 He scored against Ayr United and St Mirren 5-12 and 12-12-1959. Also added his Oxford United stats. A Simpson played 1 match for Stirling Albion in 1957-58 I'm not sure at all this is the same player
